Sunday Link Love: Cultivating Community, Legal Checklist for Your Blog + Pricing Tips

Sunday Link Love is a recurring series of hand-picked digital marketing and entrepreneur lifestyle links from around the web.  The links are very, very rarely affiliate links, but if any are, I'll say so. Along with sharing my recent favorites, it's also a way for me to keep an extra-personal touch to my blog. Social media is great, but my blog is still my home base!

On my mind... I just spent the past week in Montgomery Alabama for a client, so my head is swimming with ideas and to dos. It's always fun getting to revisit where I lived for a few years and see what's new.

What I'm loving... Summertime adventures are well underway! Not only traveling, but local Pittsburgh events are popping up more and more. I finally got to attend the Arts Fest last weekend and had a blast.

What fun events are going on in your city this summer?

Reading... That Night by Chevy Stevens. After traveling and socializing all week, I buried myself under the covers and read for awhile this weekend. It's a good mystery/thriller, so I was drawn in quickly.

Now on to this week's round up!

I’m an SEO specialist + digital marketing strategist with over 12 years experience in the industry. I’m here to tell you it IS possible to tackle your marketing with authenticity, grace and ease, and still get results.

I work with passionate business owners and marketing directors who are 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 and spreading their efforts too thin. They want to know what's working, what's not working, and where they should really be spending their time and money.

But I'll be honest- I'm not here for the people chasing vanity metrics. My philosophy is grounded in 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲-𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 and what I've dubbed #SEOwithSoul. I don't believe in hacks and "beating algorithms" as a long term strategy.

Sunday Link Love: Scheduling Your Work Week, Improving Squarespace SEO + Getting Testimonials

On my mind... It's this beauty's wedding weekend! By the time this goes live on Sunday, they'll have been married, with Aaron and me by their sides as a bridesmaid and best man.

What I'm loving... I upgraded my Fitbit to an Alta HR and am loving the sleep cycle tracking! Ever since reading The Sleep Revolution, I've been making sleep more of a priority. Some days this week that meant sleeping in until 9am, but I noticed I was more productive throughout the day. Does anyone else have guilt around sleeping in, even if you set your own hours?

Reading... I just finished listening to the audiobook You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero. It was nothing I haven't already heard from Danielle LaPorte, Brene Brown, Jess Lively and all the other inspirational women, but it came at a time when I needed the reminders around the energy you bring to your life. I always need the reminders.

A few observations from listening to the book:

  1. Despite having read books with the same overall message, I still listened to it and enjoyed it. So if you're worried about there already being people doing what you want to do, this is an example that there's room for everyone. You have a unique view, and if you're spreading goodness and helping people, your message is needed over and over.
  2. The day I started listening to this book, I met someone at Starbucks who was carrying the book. We started talking about business before I noticed he had it, but after seeing it, I had to mention the coincidence. He later sent me another audio book to pay it forward. The Law of Attraction at work, possibly?

So anyway, on to this week's round up!

Sunday Link Love: Perfectionism, Instagram Following + Managing Your Inbox

Sunday Link Love is a recurring series of hand-picked digital marketing and entrepreneur lifestyle links from around the web.  The links are very, very rarely affiliate links, but if any are, I'll say so. Along with sharing my recent favorites, it's also a way for me to keep an extra-personal touch to my blog. Social media is great, but my blog is still my home base!

On my mind... We had an amazing trip! For the first part of our adventure we flew into Orlando (where we had too much fun in the Harry Potter airport gift shop), then stayed with friends in Melbourne. Next we stayed in Key Largo and explored the Keys for 2 days, followed by a night in Ft. Lauderdale. Each location and beach had such a different feel; it was interesting.

In the comments I'd love hear about any adventures you have planned this summer!

What I'm loving... all of you who nominated me again this year for One Woman Shop's 100 Best Sites for Solopreneurs! This year, they're mixing it up with a voting period to determine the #1 site in each category. I would love your vote! Cast your vote here before 5/25.

Reading... A mix of not sleeping well lately and my vacation allowed me to finish three books over the past 2 weeks. I got partway through Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition, and while it was really interesting, I ditched it to fulfill my fiction craving. I devoured The Death of Bees and You Know Me Well, along with another quick (but funny) non-fiction read called Magical Thinking: True Stories by Augusten Burroughs.

What's on your reading list this summer?

Now, on to this week's round up!

Marketing + Entrepreneur Lifestyle Round-up:

» Inbox zero is definitely one of the many challenges online entrepreneurs face on a daily basis (this includes me!). Holly breaks down her 3 step system that helps her stay on top of her inbox and stay more calm and productive.

» Have you ever spent hours writing a great blog post and then have no idea how to create a killer blog post title? Check out this great 85 fill-in-the-blank blog title template.

» The idea of perfectionism is something I've admittedly struggled with, and Allie's post on progress not perfection was a great reminder to stay mindful.

» My goal has always been to help you stand out authentically in this crowded online space. A big part of that is choosing collaboration over competitiveness, and this post explains 5 reasons why collaborating is good for your business.

» Creating a cohesive branding strategy is definitely one of the biggest dilemmas that multi-passionate creatives can face. Caroline takes a great approach in this post on how to focus your brand when you have a ton of different interests.

» Ever wondered how much to charge for a sponsored blog post? This great guide explains how what to charge really has nothing to do with a number and everything to do understanding the different factors.

» Clearly I'm an Instagram fan - just scroll down a little more and you'll see that it's true. And it's no wonder that with over 500 million active users, it is definitely one not to miss if you want to build your online business. Fiona shares 9 surefire ways to get started on building real followers on Instagram.

» If you've been following my blog for some time you know that I'm a firm believer in running an authentic business. But when it comes to affiliate marketing it may sometimes feel as if your selling out. Nesha does a great job of explaining how to boost your freelance income while still being true to your values.

Sunday Link Love: Handling Writer's Block, Using Yoast in Wordpress + Boosting Newsletter Subscribers

Sunday Link Love is a series of helpful marketing and entrepreneur lifestyle resources from around the web, plus a few insights into my behind-the-scenes life. On my mind... The past few weeks have been all about the ebb and flow of energy for me.

What I'm loving... The warmer weather! Even while living in Florida I was somehow vitamin D deficient, so you bet I've been enjoying soaking up the sun lately.

Reading... On Monday I started Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition, by T. Colin Campbell (co-author of The China Study published a few years ago). I haven't read a book about nutrition in awhile, so I'm enjoying the reminders. Just like The Sleep Revolution that I finished last week, I've read similar books before but need a reminder every so often.

Anticipating... Heading to Florida on the 28th for the first non-work or family related vacation I've had in a long time!

Learning... I had another inspiring session with my business coach this week. The biggest lesson from my session was around value messaging for my services. My clients pay me for my experience and results, not for my hours.

Now, on to this week's round up!

» Consistently writing great content for your blog and business definitely has its challenges! I know I've struggled with this in the past, and it can often lead to self-doubt and mental blocks.  These four great writing tricks will help you get out of your head and start writing.

Sunday Link Love: Money-Talking Tips for Introverts, Using NoFollow Links Correctly + Building Smart Work Habits

I don't even know where the time and days are going this year... but I guess that's every year, right? Does anyone NOT feel like this? I'd love to know. On my mind... I've been taking my marketing and networking offline more lately. I set a goal at the beginning of the year to attend one in-person networking event per month, and so far I'm averaging two or three. As an introvert it can be exhausting, but I also feel like I'm finally establishing some roots in an area. Pittsburgh has a lot to offer for female entrepreneurs, so it's really exciting.

What I'm loving... All the live music I get to see in Pittsburgh. Everything from The Lumineers and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness to local blue grass bands in the War Streets Brewing garage, it's all fun.

Last weekend I made new friends at a concert and we accidentally stood in line to meet Atlus Genius. They did put on a great show, so even though we were trying to find Andrew McMahon, it's all good!

Reading... GUYS. You have to read The Sleep Revolution by Arianna Huffington. I knew sleep was important, but this book is still changing how and why I'll prioritize it.

Anticipating... Aaron and I finally booked a vacation at the end of April. If you have any recommendations for things to do in the Florida Keys, let me know!

Learning... How to customize Squarespace templates. I'm working on something exciting that I can't wait to unveil. My Instagram stories will have sneak peeks over the next few weeks.

Sunday Link Love: Free Planning Calendars, 38 Webinar Ideas + How to Get Better Sleep

I'm trying something new this week and jumping in on The Blogger Tribe's Sunday Lately series, led by the lovely Angelica and Katy!

Each Sunday the group shares a sneak peek into their lives based on different prompts.

Smelling

I've been really into peppermint essential oil lately.

Wanting

Sunshine. The weather here in Pittsburgh has been insane the past few weeks. From days of sunny 60-degree amazingness to waking up with an inch of snow on Friday...I'm just not sure what to do with myself.

Reminiscing

On Friday I had a Skype session with my other half, which always leads to reminiscing. But not only did we get to reminisce, but we also got to brainstorm marketing ideas. She's a newly licensed real estate agent in Philly, and I'm so proud of her!

We've been making a great team for over 13 years.

Memorizing

Hmm. This is a tough one. I'd have to say the closest thing to memorizing I've been doing is trying to remember the dates for plans in the coming 6 months. So many weddings, trips, work meetings, and more!

Completing

This is a boring one, but my taxes were completed, and I don't owe anything! I set my business up as an LLC S-Corp starting this year, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I found a great local accountant, and he worked his magic! Figuring out the financial and legal parts of running a business can be such a headache.

Now, on to this week's round up!

Marketing + Entrepreneur Lifestyle Round-up:

» Stay organized and consistent with this free calendar download.

» Want to grow your email list fast? Try hosting a webinar. Here are 38 great ideas to get you started and for what you could teach.

» SOOOO true. My success hasn't been easy by any means, but I also find myself feeling guilty if I'm not "hustling" and working 14 hour days. And maybe, just maybe, aiming for pleasure is one of the most radical—and noble—moves you could make.

» Is it just me or do we often forget how important getting a restful sleep? Sleep is key to helping your energy levels for working out and your productivity.

» SEO isn't just about getting choosing the right words to use. It should be a key part of your blog strategy and in helping you to grow your audience. Here are 5 easy ways to start growing your audience today.

» Here are 15 Fantastic Resources for Creating Killer Blog Post Titles.

Sunday Link Love: Mind Mapping, Affordable Stock Photos + Winter Self-Care

The past two weeks included a trip to California, another round of The Imperfect Boss campaign, and a busy week trying to catch up on emails. On my mind... With all of that going on, the idea of the entrepreneurial "hustle" and finding the right flow in my business have been weighing heavily on my mind. You can read more of my personal feelings on hustling in the first Instagram post below. I'd love to know your thoughts in a blog comment or Instagram comment!

Sunday Link Love: Create a Business Plan, Improve Your Sales Page + Take Care of Yourself

I've been compiling these Sunday Link Love posts for years now with varying styles, but only recently did I realize I've completely neglected an intro. I probably had an intro on the very first post, but otherwise, nope. Nothing.

The intro is always the hardest part of writing for me (and probably most people). I would probably have way more blog posts published if it weren't for the intro.

Honestly, I've been lazy with these round-up posts. But I'm working on updating and improving my content this year, so that includes improving the Sunday Link Love series!

In the comments, I'd love to hear:

  • Which type of content do you click on most? (business-starting tips, wellness & lifestyle tips, social media tips, etc.)
  • Are there any categories you'd like to see more of? (email newsletters, healthy recipes, introverts in business, etc.)

Now, on to this week's round up!
