At some point a few years ago, I came across the idea of choosing a word to represent the year rather than setting resolutions. In the holistic health and blogging world, this has become pretty popular. Last year I read The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte and the "word of the year" sounded similar to her idea of Core Desired Feelings. How do you want to FEEL? Because isn't it a feeling we're actually after? We want to reach certain goals because of the way we think that will make us feel. Fulfilled. Successful. Happy.
The word of the year isn't always a feeling, though, so they differ there. But I like the idea of getting focused enough to choose just a few words and letting that guide your actions.
I started this journey last year, by trying to shop with intention, simplify my apartment, and focus on the positive in life. I plan to continue improving on mindfulness this year by moving away from multi-tasking, having a clearer separation of work and family time, and continuing to practice yoga + meditation.
One of my words last year was simplicity, which is part of mindfulness. My words build on each other rather than starting fresh each year.

2014: growth + simplicity
What word would you use to sum up how you want to feel + act this year?
